ABSTRACT
Sleep disturbances are common in the elderly population. Physiological changes, medical and psychiatric condition, medication use and environmental factors such as institutionalization can disrupt the sleep of aged person. In this article, we reviewed the normal physiological changes that can affect the sleep and primary and secondary sleep problems that can occur in the elderly. Additionally, we looked over the special condition such as admission to hospital or institutionalization. In summing up, sleep problems are very frequent and important issues in the geriatric people.
